Every planet trains three kinds of troops: a raider, a heavy and a defender. What they’re called depends on your planet’s species. In the Hangar, each troop shows its name, its role and its price.

Stats

The Hangar doesn’t show these stats, so here they are.
  • Attack counts when the troop is sent to attack.
  • Defence counts when your planet is attacked and the troop is at home. Every troop at home defends, not just defenders.
  • Carry is how much loot each surviving attacker brings home.
Your species adjusts these. Troops from Ferox worlds attack 20% harder, and troops from Bastion worlds defend 25% harder. Vex fleets fly 25% faster. Terra’s bonus is production, not troops.

Picking a mix

  • Raiders are the cheapest to keep, and carry the most loot for their price.
  • Heavies hit the hardest, per troop and per dust, but each eats 30 dust an hour.
  • Defenders hold your planet, with 75 defence each.
For defence, don’t forget your Bastion building. Its first level gives 500 defence for 1,000 dust and costs no upkeep. See Upgrades.

Training

Train in the Hangar. You pay the full price up front, in dust.
  • The batch waits in the yard until it’s ready. Troops in training can’t attack or defend.
  • One batch at a time. The next can’t start until the last one has joined your garrison.
  • When a batch is ready, it joins your garrison on its own, and you get a Training done alert.
  • The Hangar shows the training time after you order: “Ready in …”. Use the table below to plan.
Training takes about 6 seconds for each point of hourly upkeep in the batch. Bigger batches get a discount: each point of hourly upkeep takes 0.1% off the time, up to 50% off at 500 upkeep an hour, for example 50 raiders or 25 defenders.

Upkeep

Troops eat dust every hour, taken from your balance a little at a time: 10 for a raider, 30 for a heavy, 20 for a defender.
  • Upkeep starts the moment you pay, not when training finishes.
  • It keeps running while troops are away attacking.
  • It stops when troops die in battle.
  • Troops you send to reinforce a coalition-mate stay on your upkeep while they fly. Once they land, the host pays.
For scale: a Common planet at production level 1 makes 3,000 dust an hour while a pack runs.
Upkeep never stops. If your pack ends, or your troops eat more than you make, your balance falls and can go below zero. A planet in debt defends at half strength. See Debt.

Troops from Supply Drops

15% of Supply Drops are troops: 3 to 10 of one role, picked at random, named for your species. They join your garrison at once and eat upkeep from then on. If your planet is in debt, you get their price in dust instead.
